Coffee Shop Sunday

Coffee Shop Sunday (CSS) is an initiative of the Coventry and Nuneaton
Methodist Circuit and started in 2019 when Pastor Trevor was appointed to oversee their
Evangelical Growth Action Plan and from this came the vision to start a church in a coffee shop. The vision was ‘meeting God in an ordinary place.’ Their first meeting was in December 2019 in Costa on Gallagher Retail Park, just outside Coventry and it was an informal time of worship, a few songs, prayers and a thought. Deacon Sue was also enthusiastically recruited into the project from the start, bringing her wisdom and knowledge to complement Trevor’s enthusiastic
leadership style.
The five pillars of CSS are collaboration, accessibility, fellowship, inclusiveness and encouragement.

In March 2020 Lockdown forced the project online and the small Facebook Group increased, Facebook Live and Zoom meetings became the norm, and members joined from all over the world the initial 72 members increasing to over 1100 now.

After, Lockdown the onsite rhythm was disrupted as Costa changed their operating
hours, and we have moved to the Warwick Road Centre in Central Coventry.

Open Doors takes place on 1st and 3rd Sundays from 3pm to 4pm at Warwick Road Church Centre.

However, the format has not changed, we share refreshments with those that drop in, as well as our regulars, and then end with a time of worship. This outreach work is led by Revd Ian and Deacon Sue supported by our CSS team.

Our online worship consists of a weekly Zoom worship meeting at 9pm on Monday and Facebook Live at 9pm on a Thursday. Please
come and join us. During the year we hold Deep Dive Theology sessions (on Zoom) where we have a deeper look at theological issues.
