Neil Bishop

neil

Neil Bishop first entered circuit in 1985. He served in the Wigan Circuit for six years before moving to Horeston Grange in the then Nuneaton and Atherstone Circuit, where he was minister of the local ecumenical partnership and county ecumenical officer.

In 1996 he moved to Leeds to be the superintendent minister of an inner-city circuit, where he stayed for ten years. He has spent the last 14 years working first full-time and then part-time for an inner-city community organisation in Sheffield. For eleven of those years he was also a minister in what is now the Aire and Calder Circuit, at first in a part-time capacity and for the last two years as a full-time circuit minister.

For the last eight years, after the new circuit was formed, he was also the deputy superintendent. After entering stationing last November, Neil was eventually given permission to be without appointment.

He is now working for Asbestos Support Central England, a charity which supports people who have an asbestos related disease, a diagnosis which is always life changing and often terminal.

He is married to Helen, who is a local preacher in the circuit and previously ran a charity in Leeds before becoming self-employed. A long time ago she was the lay training co-ordinator for the Birmingham District. They have three grown-up children and five grandchildren.
